Google Meet Introduces Polls, Q&A Features
Google Meet has included Q&A and polling features to improve the engagement in online meetings. This is in view of driving efficiency, increasing customer feedback, and overall video conferencing experience. Google Meet has also rolled out attendance polls for schools.
This feature has been included to aid the world’s new norm of digital workplaces and distance learning. It is an addition to all the many features like background blur (which allows you to focus on the person in front of you).
This is in addition to digital whiteboards (to inspire creativity), and tiled layouts that make group conversations easy. It allows participants to ask questions without disrupting the flow of the meeting or an important presentation. The feature saves you the stress of second-guessing what topics need more discussion. It’s a great way to get a pulse of your audience as it’s a platform that allows everyone to express themselves without fear.

An Insight To The Functionality of Google Meet New Features
The moderator is the one who scheduled the meeting. He/she has to join the call a few minutes earlier to set up a poll for questions to gather reactions and engage the group throughout the meeting. The moderator can decide to transfer the meeting to someone else or schedule a meeting on someone’s calendar. The person whose calendar the meeting was scheduled on becomes the new moderator.
Anyone in a meeting can ask questions as Q&A turns on automatically for all users except Google Workspace for Education users. The moderator can turn on Q&A during the meeting for education users. Every participant gets a notification whenever a question is asked by anyone during the meeting. Participants can now choose to answer the questions verbally or add their reply in the meeting chat. The questions is shown until they are deleted or hidden from the computer (hidden from a desktop or laptop device).
In addition, the moderator can filter, delete and upvote questions while participants can only filter by all questions or questions they asked. Moreso, participants can also delete their questions. The moderator or host can also set up multiple questions viewable to only them, then launch the poll when it’s the time during the call.
Tips On The Best Way To Utilize The New Features
Instead of boring your audience just barely 30 minutes after the meeting had started:
- Encourage your audience to submit and upvote their favorite questions at the start of the meeting. Ensure you hint your audience on when you plan to answer these questions. This can be done during the call or at the end.
- Make everyone feel like they are part of the presentation, no one should feel left out. To achieve this, you can throw a question to the audience, then allow them to answer the questions individually either verbally. This is done by adding their replies to the meeting chat. You can now display the results, and give an insight that contradicts what most of them believe while providing clarification for further contradictions.
- You can also prioritize the questions as they come in. This is done by sorting them by most popular, oldest, and newest. You can also mark questions that appear as duplicates.
- Furthermore, mark questions that have been answered as answered. Don’t forget to follow up on open questions after the call.
After the meeting, a question report is emailed to the moderator. The report includes a list of questions that were asked, hidden, or deleted, along with the names of the people who posted it. This makes it easier for the host to refer back to the questions and take action. Q&A in Google Meet is available for users with Google Workspace editions such as Essentials, Business Standards, Business plus, Enterprise. It is also available in Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Essentials, Education Plus, and G Suite business.
